Introduction

If Office activation fails, you'll see Unlicensed Product or Non-commercial use / Unlicensed Product in the title bar of your Office apps, and most features of Office are disabled. To restore all features of Office, you'll need to fix the problem that's causing activation to fail.

How to fix the licensing problem

  1. Open the Outlook App

  2. Click File > Office Account

  3. Click Sign Out

  4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 with all of your installed Microsoft Office programs such as: Word, Excel, Publisher, and Powerpoint (and even Visio and Project if they are installed)

  5. Restart the computer

  6. After Signing back into Windows Open the Outlook App

  7. Click Sign In and enter your Office365 credentials (email address and password)

  8. Restart Outlook and your Microsoft Office programs should now be activated with your existing Microsoft Office365 license

If the issue persists you may need to uninstall other versions of Office.

You are licensed for Microsoft Office 365 Business if any other versions are displayed you will need to uninstall them following the steps below:

  1. Exit out of all Microsoft Office programs: Word, Excel, Publisher, and Powerpoint

  2. Click Start > Settings > Apps

  3. From the Search this list field type Office

  4. Select Microsoft Office365 ProPlus and select Uninstall

  5. Restart your computer once the uninstall has completed, your Microsoft Office programs should now be activated

If the issue remains please contact our Helpdesk and we will complete the final step for you.
